Booth 12 | Atron Metrology
ATRON METROLOGY is a technological platform dedicated to irradiation tests including accelerated aging or electronic systems reliability tests. It allows MeV-scale irradiation in electrons or X-rays at controlled temperatures and atmospheres. ATRON METROLOGY provides also support for R&D projects.
ATRON METROLOGY has developed a rupture technology that aims to abandon the use of radioactive sources in favor of a controlled irradiation mean. These services are allowed thanks to an Electron Beam and an X Irradiation Line (FELIX) allowing electronic or X-ray irradiation of materials. This accelerator emits electron or X-photon radiation, from 0.2 to 3.5 MeV. It has been designed and tailor-made by HVE (High Voltage Engineering, Nederlands) according to our specifications. It has a footprint of 10.4×6.9 m², which is part of a dedicated facility in Normandy (France). The irradiation room, in which the electron beam is delivered to a removable conversion target, has the dimensions 3×6 m². Its access through a baffle allows to irradiate volumes of materials up to 1 m³.
The beam is adjustable in current (from pA to mA) and voltage (0.2 to 3.5 MV) so that a very large dose equivalent rate dynamic can be achieved from 0.1 µSv/h to 500 Gy/h at 1 m from the X-target. E-beam can also be directly used. It is scanned over a maximum area of 40×220 mm² at a configurable electron fluence.
In partnership with CNRS and CEA laboratories, ATRON METROLOGY has developed a method for calibrating of radiation survey meters with an electron beam and an X irradiation field connected to a primary radiation source. This service is COFRAC accredited according to the ISO-17025 standard, which lays down general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
The scope of our accreditation No. 2-6778 covers instrument calibration operations in terms of air kerma, ambient dose equivalent or their flow rates. It demonstrates the importance that ATRON METROLOGY attaches to the validity of the results delivered, the confidentiality of the data to which ATRON METROLOGY has access and the impartiality of its team.
The entire ATRON METROLOGY platform, from beam calibration to measurement methods, ensures its customers reliable results, reduces environmental impact and participates in the emergence of new solutions through research and innovation.
Booth 34 | Brookhaven National Laboratory
Brookhaven National Laboratory hosts the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL), which since 2003 has provided proton and heavy ion beams to simulate cosmic rays with the aim to understand radiobiological effects of the deep space radiation environment. In 2011, NSRL began accepting non-NASA users who wished to take advantage of the fidelity of high energy heavy ion beams for electronics testing. The demand from both U.S. government and private sector groups for accelerator-based test time in the U. S. has significantly grown in recent years and there is not sufficient availability to meet this demand. In addition, these users have diverse requirements; large ranges in beam energies, large diversity of ion species, very high-quality beams in purity and uniformity (3D), support from the facilities (e.g., dosimetry, staging, etc.), as well as more exotic beams such as cocktails of ions and higher intensity beams. BNL proposed the High Energy Effects Testing (HEET) facility to meet all these requirements and provide as much as 4000 to 5000 hours of test time per year. BNLs HEET facility will have unprecedented capabilities in energy reach and in different modes of supplying beams to simulate diverse radiation environments including solar particle events (SPE) and galactic cosmic rays (GCR). Since HEET will make use of two synchrotrons, BNLs Booster and the AGS, many modes are possible that a single synchrotron or cyclotron or any other type of accelerator can provide. This includes highly uniform transverse beams as well as highly uniform and stable longitudinal (temporal) structure, including an extremely long particle flux with no imposed rf structure.
We are pleased to be able to participate in RADECS and discuss our facilities and the proposed HEET facility with the electronics testing community. We are very interested in learning about users’ testing experiences and how we can help users achieve their goals.

About Power Electronics
Reducing our carbon footprint with GaN-on-Si
GaN-on-Si (gallium-nitride-on-silicon) wide bandgap semiconductor technology is pushing the limits of high power semiconductors by making systems more energy efficient.
New technologies must be implemented to reduce system energy consumption in the interest of facilitating the energy transition and limiting carbon dioxide emissions.
Objective :
To miniaturize converters and increase energy efficiency, while reducing costs. Electric vehicles, motor controls and power supplies in industry represent principal growth vectors.
CMOS-compatible GaN-on-Si technology on 200 mm silicon wafers fulfills the demands of any medium power application at voltages between 100V and 1200V. Leti implements cutting-edge GaN-on-Si epitaxy equipment (600V and 1200V) and technology for producing diodes and 600V GaN-on-Si power transistors (HEMT) that are much more compact and five times more powerful than silicon technology.
This coplanar technology (CMOS like) enables us to make the power component “smarter” with integrated monolithic functions, such as a bidirectional component (current/voltage), or detection and safety functions (temperature, voltage, current, etc.) orcontrol functions (driver), currently impossible with silicon power technology.
Booth 23 | ChipIr & NILE
The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory has recently been building up its irradiation capability.
It’s ChipIr beamline is dedicated to neutron testing and qualification of electronic devices for single-event-effects that result from the naturally occurring atmospheric neutrons produced by the atmosphere continuous bombardment by cosmic rays. The beamline’s dedicated design provides a neutron spectrum that closely matches the natural atmospheric one up to 800MeV in energy, but at much higher intensity, providing an acceleration factor of 1.5 x 10^9. Coupled to this the beamline has flexible collimation, a highly specified experimental and user areas that provide the necessary environment for effective and efficient experimental campaigns.
The NILE facility contains two compact neutron sources using the D-T and D-D nuclear reactions to produce mono-energetic neutrons at 14MeV (at a total yield of 10^10) and 2.5MeV (at a total yield of 10^9). Situated alongside the ChipIr beamline NILE provides testing and training capability in electronic irradiation testing as well as benchmarking and opportunities for fast-neutron detector development for the nuclear and fusion sectors.
In addition to these dedicated facilities the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source can also provide access to thermal neutron and muon beamlines for irradiation experiments and testing.
Both ChipIr and NILE, along with other ISIS beamlines, provide access routes for both commercial and academic clients and welcomes users from across the globe. ISIS can also provide funded access to its irradiation capability through projects like the RADNEXT programme and the UK’s SWIMMR Space Weather programme.
